| I\'m sure this hasn\'t been requested yet. How about READ RECEIPTS?!! I\'m an I.T. consultant & would recommend Gmail(or GoogleApps rather) to all of my business clients if not for the lack of read receipts. Otherwise, Gmail rocks. Stationary on the other hand, I couldn\'t care less about. | |

| In filters, the ability to assign a return address based on part of the incoming address. Right now, you can assign X address only if the email comes to X address, and not via filters, which is very clumsy. One example is I need to be able to assign \"ben@myurl.com\" if an email comes to \"several_different_emails@myurl.com\" | |

| First of all, the idiots who are requesting \"Mobile Notification\" need to get up to speed and get a mobile device that can receive email! Secondly, I agree with the numerous requests for READ RECEIPTS. Finally, anyone complaining about setting up a third party client to \"sync messages\" and whatnot is obviously not in the loop and has not used IMAP. Come on people, learn how to use features before you make yourself look like an idiot for requesting something there already is! | |

| IMAP accounts in Gmail are only fetched once an hour? And I can\'t increase that interval? Hourly email delivery is no more acceptable than getting my search results every hour, or my GoogleTalk replies on an hourly basis. You really have to upgrade this so users can increase their fetching intervals. | |

| Ability to reorganize my labels! In addition to existing requests to add or delete emails from conversations, implement a way to view email without conversations. (An IMAP connection to GMail does this pretty well, except that if you label one message, all the other messages in the conversation get the same label -- ick!) Also, how about \"sub-labels\"? (just like subfolders.) | |

I again downloaded Smiley Central & I see the icon on a DSL Exteme tool bar(I assume it is because DSL is my server.)But I can't find it on my Gmail tool bar & Gmail is my prefered email address. I never use DSL for that. Now what can I do to get Smiley back? (I never had any trouble getting it the 1st time!) Thank you!~Linda

| I have to wonder why, since Apr 03 2005, 00:21 (the first feedback on what "WE, GMAIL USERS WANT", Gmail hasn't implemented read receipts. I mean, really. It's been 3 years. (rolls eyes) Although I understand the annoying read receipt to every email from that insecure "didja get my mail" geek, it's quit useful in the business world when you have customers that play games. It's also useful in the family when that certain relative ignores your email and keeps you out of the loop when planning and coordinating family events. Will we or will we not get the read receipt feature added sometime soon? BTW, neat little script on keeping spammers out. You guys continue to show off your skills ..... just remember our request: Read Receipts ;-) | |

I should also have the possibility to add my details as a VCard file automatically to all outgoing emails.

| I can\'t believe nobody\'s pointed out this one yet here... I want *FORWARD AS ATTACHMENT* ! If what I want to do is quote the original message in the body of my new mail, I\'ll use \"Reply\" and I\'ll change the destination. When I want to forward an e-mail, I want the recipient to see EXACTLY what was sent to me, including headers and all! | |

| I\'m using the gmail\'s pop3 feature with Outlook Express. I want the emails to be left \"untouched\" in the gmail inbox after OE has accessed them because both my computers (at work and at home) are always opened and sometimes the OE on the computer where I\'m not accesses a new email first thus I don\'t receive it on the computer where I am! I checked \"Leave a copy of the messages on server\" and \"Remove from server after 5 days\" in the Properties/Advanced tab for this account in OE, on both computer. I also use the \"When messages are accessed with pop keep gmail\'s copy in the inbox\" in the gmail\'s settings. But it doesn\'t work! As soon as one OE has accessed the new email, the other won\'t retrieve it. | |
| Jaadd | Feb 10 2007, 10:35 |
| I have 40 people on my contact list that would appreciate this joke forward, if I just clicked on the contacts one by one to add them in the \"to\" field, It would take me 30 seconds to add all of the 40 people but if I did it with gmail\'s auto-complete (First letter of first, last name/e-mail) would take me smthn like 4 minutes, I know I could do it by opening a new window and box-checking all the contacts and then copying them but I could bet that not more than 25% of the gmail users know how to do that, anyway it can be simplified. So the following feature is highly needed : A drop-down contacts list where contacts can be added in the to/bcc/cc fields with a click. Frankly some new users are disappointed in the service because of the absence of this feature (it exist in yahoo, hotmail, outlook ...). So I think this is the number one priority for gmail. | |

It can be `back quote` as the delimiter of the subject line. Than we will be able to send greetings and other notes to multiple recipients and it won't be merged in one huge conversation that very often doesn't have any sense.

I dont know where to request features, so I'll do it here: 1- more features in contacts: a) have birthdays fields link to your google calendars b) ability to attach more files to a contact (currently just 1 is available: the picture of the contact) so that for example when opening a contact we can have the jpg or pdf of that contacts's business brochure, maps, etc all there filed together. c) ability to open contacts in new separate windows so we can see 2 or more contacts info at the same time, instead of only one at a time d) bigger "notes" area or better yet a resizeable "notes" area e) ability to associate "show as" or aliases for different email addresses a contact may have (this is available in Outlook), that way we have options when composing new email to a contact's home or office emails instead of having to use the contact's primary address or having to open the contact's info to use his other email address. f) ability to see the sender's name the way I have listed in my contacts, not the way that contact wants me to see it. For example: I have a contact named "Bill (PC techie)" but when he emails me his email shows as from "Mr William LastName" and that confuses me and makes searching harder. 2- more features in filters: a pull down menu or "search as you type" - Example: showing the list of contacts or labels etc in the TO and FROM fields, so we dont have to type each one 3- more features in email viewing: a) ability to open 2 or more emails at a time, instead of only being able to see one at a time. b) ability to edit the subject of the email (I suppose this has impact of how the conversations are forced into one or broken up, as suggested already)

| Filters recognize contact groups The most useful feature I could use would be for filters to recognize contact groups. Filtering based on the "From" header is still probably the most popular usage pattern of filters. It would be great to have the From and To Fields behave similar to the "To" field when composing a message, ie, a drop-down list appears while typing, which of course includes all your contact groups. The current situation unfortunately forces users to maintain two identical lists of any contact group they want to write to and label incoming messages. | |

| To the people that want direct GPG/PGP-gmail integration: I ask you to refer to the numerous warnings by these kind developers and related companies regarding security. Assuming you have read about their work beyond the installation instructions, I have one question. Would you give me, a nameless-unknown-faceless person the keys to your home or car? How about the pin number of your bank account? The credit card in your wallet? I know you would not. You would not use encryption if you were this sort of person. You would be penniless and insane wandering the streets of large cities, a hungry ghost, your clothes rotting from your body.... you get the point. Security is done at the source. You can not tell someone a very sensitive and personal thing about yourself and be certain that it is secure. You must do that yourself by either being vague or not giving into the urge to "share". Security comes at a price, even when free. You must manage your own security at the cost of your time. You must make certain that your keys are physically secure. You must make sure that your passphrase is safe and long enough to be strong. All of this is a chore, but grandma's cookie recipe is worth it! Security is simple. You either look grow lazy and do not use the software or you continually find your weakness and dam them up. It's either do or don't. You accept all responsibilities and flaws depending on your adherence of basic practice. Nothing is secure. Believe this. Knowing this, as you do any other article of faith, you are well on your way to knowing how important best practice is to security. It is the first rung in a ladder that we all climb. | |

| I think it's a VERY BAD idea to intergrate PGP/GPG into GMail. Encryption should be on the client side not at server side, you have any idea how happy government would be with A LOT of private PGP/GPG keys in gmails database? and about the passwords...? well now, you have to enter that one in a pop-up window i'd guess, and don't u be thinking that won't be stored... be secure, be smart, encrypt your own stuff, then email it. or use a plugin for thunderbird or whatever mail client you use... | |

| One of the features that I have hoped would make its way to gmail is composing messages in HTML mode. | Gmail would benefit from nested labels. (parent/child labels). Ex. I have one label for family then i have a label for each member of my family, which would be a child label of the "family" label. If i had a nested label i could apply the label for the person in my family, and then automatically they would be part of the "family" label, but would not actually have the family label attached. This would allow me later to move the label for a particular member of my family and when moved out of the family label, all of its conversations would no longer be included with the "family" label. Thats probably pretty confusing but once you get it, it makes total sense. The only thing to watch out for are infinate loops. | |

| Another vehement vote for timestamp preservation in old mail redirected to gmail! This is critical. The original Date: header line actually is still in there (you can see using "more options"), BUT that header is not currently used for the chronological sort in a gmail listing, and (far far worse) is not searchable at all. There's no way I can consider moving my old mail archive over until this is fixed. Speaking of dates, we should also be able to specify an exact date/time format without that being linked to default language. I can't *believe* they don't let users of "English (US)" have 24-hour time, the only sane choice. Thanks. | |

| When we select the option to see full headers in a message to a gmail used, the full headers are not displayed. They should be, so that a gmail user can see what IP address was used when the message was created, and what IP addresses through which it was routed. I think I have received some attempts to gain information fraudulently, but I can't report the attempted crime without the IP addresses through which the message was routed. Likewise, right now, I can't report the IP address used by the perpetrator when the message was created. We need to be able to report that information to the proper law enforcement authorities. sykes74@gmail.com | |

| Some easy method of importing bulk (more than 1,000) e-mails into Gmail would be great. Either find someway of using the mbox format or just write a wizard that seemlessly does it (i.e. user selects their client from a list, the wizard finds the locally stored e-mail OR logs into the IMAP server and downloads it). Migrating to Gmail is attractive but many users want to be able to move years of e-mail over there (ideally with original date/time stamps and From lines) | |

| I'm surprised mailing lists or groups are not included in the list of features.. Also, the feature of applying filters to old mail is unnecessary I think.. If when your creating the filters you use the test search button, at the top of the search results there is a search query that you can copy and paste into the regular email search bar and then do whatever actions to those mails that you were going to do.. Example of search query: Search results for:from:bob to:frank subject:cars green -blue has:attachment | |

| As a security measure to prevent potential viruses, Gmail does not allow users to receive executable files (such as files ending in .exe) links and such that could contain damaging executable code. Gmail does not accept these types of files, even if they are sent in a zipped (.zip, .tar, .tgz, .taz, .z, .gz) format. Any message of this type sent to your Gmail account will be bounced back to the sender. Gmail will allow these files from other gmail accouts. Gmail needs a safe contact list file so files are not bounced back from family memebers and friends. | |

| Selectable encoding for outgoing mail. This is essential for Gmail users writing messages in languages other than English. Currently, Gmail ignores the browser setting and sends all mail converted to UTF-8 encoding. This is a problem for the receivers of those messages because many e-mail clients cannot handle UTF-8 correctly and all characters other than the standard ASCII characters appear as unreadable garbage in them. Therefore, Gmail users need the ability to choose whatever encoding they like for their outgoing messages, e.g. ISO-8859-2, etc. | |

| I think an essential feature is the ability to make groups for mass e-mails. In the address book, there is no way to send one -mail to lots (100) of people without adding each of them individually to the contact list. There are tricks to do this (like eddie@ed.com>, in one field), but they never work for me. This seems just so simple and necessary. | |

| Ciphire-Mail Support. Ciphire is a public key encryption system that works in the background, has a fully automatic pki behind it and is availible for Windows, Linux and Mac! It works great and incorporating it into gmail could be done nearly seamlessly without any action needed by the user! | |

| I would like the ability to apply a chosen label(s) at the time of composing a mail, rather than compose, send, then go to sent mails and then apply label(s). I am aware that I can setup filters that can help with labelling while the recepient is known. But what about otherwise... | |

| There has been a recent feature addition to Gmail which notifies you if you have a message without having to open Gmail. I think that it would be a very good idea to incorporate this feature into the Google toolbar. It makes more sense to me because you are going to need a browser window anyway... | |
| Mike | Oct 08 2004, 23:44 |
| I would find it useful to search for messages without labels. Like when you archive something without a label, it's a pain to search through "All Mail" to find it. You can search under specific labels, why can't you search under "no label"? | |
| Krylon | Oct 08 2004, 10:54 |
| I think a good idea for gmail would be folders. Altho it has been said that you never need it i like to keep my inbox organised so folders would be really nice... | |

| There are three main features I want to see. 1. Export contacts from the address book 2. Upon opening a new message being able to add contacts from the new message box without having to go to contacts first. 3. Gmail inbox like outlook but designed just for gmail with pop access. | |
| Christophe Warland | Oct 06 2004, 12:36 |
| Hosting emails for a domain and having multiple froms are really what is blocking me from switching to GMail. And yes, I would pay for it -- as long as I can still run my domain web servers anywhere I want (i.e. not a la Yahoo! with mandatory geocities hosting). | |
| Brendan O'Brien | Oct 06 2004, 04:41 |
| Labels for Contacts Ability to organize contacts with their own set of labels similar to messages. | |
| Mourgos | Oct 06 2004, 04:34 |

| Send mail to the adresses flaged in the contact's window. It's only possble write the email in the field of sender and it's boring if want to send to all yours contacts | |
| Michal Trettenbach | Sep 10 2004, 17:11 |
| A user should be able to keep a sent message from having a "reply-to" field. The settings panel lets it either be identical to the "from" field, which is pointless, or be something else -- but doesn't let it be absent. Lots of Listserv, Lyris, majordomo, mailman, you-name-it lists get "broken" (as a user experience matter, not technically) by reply-to fields. One ought to be able to omit it. (I've tried choosing "other" and leaving it blank -- no dice.) | |

| Google needs to create a calendar program in gmail. Sort of like the outlook caldender. It could have reminders and a date schedular also. I think google could make a really nice one, better then microsoft. | |

| boylaski | Sep 04 2004, 16:46 |
| I'd like to be able to have a cleaner view of the Inbox, and have the option of *not* seeing everything, the same way it works in other email systems that use folders. While I understand how you can use labels to simulate folders, this doesn't help at all when looking at you Inbox. In some cases, I will probably get mail that is not yet, or may never be, classified under a label. | |
| matro | Sep 02 2004, 00:32 |
| I really like to be able to define a 5 chars-length username: I'd like to use 'matro'; I'd eventually manage the spam (google says 6 length minimum is required for anti-spam purposes). | |
| stian | Sep 01 2004, 21:13 |
| Gunigugu: That would be "Manually break up conversations", which has been there for a while. Hamish: That's a nice idea, I hadn't thought of that! I will try to implement it during the weekend. Also, you've probably noticed that the pages that display the standings are rather sluggish now. That's because I had to introduce a rather complex SQL query to calculate the score since a particular day. I'll try to redesign things, but it might take me a while, since I'm pretty backup up these days. Thanks for your patience! | |
| Gunigugu | Sep 01 2004, 09:43 |
| Force conversations into separate messages (the opposite of: Force different subjects into single conversation) When I migrated from Hotmail Gmail several messages were combined into conversations, but they had in fact nothing to do with each other.. quite annoying! | |
| Hamish | Aug 30 2004, 20:25 |
| stian: How about normalising the results? Votes cast in favour of functionality divided by number of days it has been possible to vote for said functionality. You should also give existing voters the chance to change their votes if they so desire, otherwise new functionality which old voters would have voted for had it been present at the time will not be properly represented. | |
| Derek | Aug 23 2004, 18:48 |
| FTP access. I would like to see the ability to FTP into some of my storage space. People say you can just email files to yourself, but then you don't get any file structuring. | |
| Jay | Aug 23 2004, 18:22 |
| Sub-thread Function: have conversations tabbed in for specific sub-threads within a conversation. Long conversations or conversations with multiple people replying get confusing to read through as it is right now | |
| storks@gmail.com | Aug 23 2004, 09:45 |
| 'Redirect' (like in Fastmail.fm) difference between forwarding and redirecting is that emails will preserve the original senders name when redirected. The main use of this is to move a set of emails from your account to another email address you might have, but to preserve the original sender so it doesn't appear like they all came from you at Gmail. | |
| dbm1175 | Aug 19 2004, 15:19 |
| I love labels, they are much more functional than folders. The only problem I have with them is the way GMail displays them. After you've applied a few labels, you can no longer read the subject of the message. Maybe instead of showing them all on the subject line, you could have a small "L" beside the subject which would show the complete list of labels when moused over. | |
| losergeekneil | Aug 19 2004, 06:09 |
| I think that Gmail should show the size of the message, and an over all statistic of how much space is being used by messages in plain text, in each label and how much is being used for attachments etc. It would also be nice if they allowed you to delete the attachment but save the message. | |
| jeff | Aug 11 2004, 19:51 |
| I'm waiting with baited breath for Gmail to offer E-mail domain hosting. Either free or paid, I don't much care. Does anybody else want this feature? | |
| stian | Aug 10 2004, 23:45 |
| I've just added a PIM feature, the virtual search thing, and a keyboard shortcut for deleting messages. The only problem is that these features are now seriously handicapped points-wise due to their late inclusion, so the results will not be entirely fair. A possible solution is to include the date that features were added in the standings, so people can see how long people have been able to vote for that particular feature. An even better way to do it would be to allow people to see results since some user-supplied date, for example since the date the last feature was added. | |
| danmccrea@gmail.com | Aug 10 2004, 04:00 |
| I think making g-mail more of a personal info manager would make it even better than it already is. I want to get off the Outlook bandwagon completely, so a calendar, todo list and notes would make it perfect for me. | |
| stian | Aug 03 2004, 22:19 |
| cebidae (and others): It has, a long time ago. It's called "Send As functionality". Maybe I should consider renaming it, since several people seems to have overlooked it? | |
| cebidae | Aug 03 2004, 05:43 |
| Why hasn't a 'change from address' option been added to be voted upon. It seems like a lot of comments below are suggesting it would be a good idea. Also, it would be interesting if google could include more PIM functionality (Calendar, Task List, Better Contacts) and some smarty could write software to sync this with a PDA (Palm, PocketPC, etc.) I could stop using crap outlook altogether then. | |

| Definitely sending email as a different address than my @gmail.com address. I forwarded all my other mail to gmail, but I'd rather *respond* to emails as the email address that it was sent to. I've already filed it as a RFE with them, but it'd be really useful. | |

| I would like a way to import old mailboxes (in mbox, outlook, whatever format) without updating the timestamps, so that the archives could be searched chronologically. Right now you can forward mail archives up, but it resets the timestamp in conversation mode. | |
| ray | Jul 17 2004, 02:10 |
| Thanks for this opportunity. A "feature" I'd like to have before permanently switching my email to gmail would be some kind of guarantee that my sent email stays for ever completely ad-free. | |
| Dany Miles | Jul 14 2004, 22:06 |
| Some of the options in select boxes are already added by third-party scripts and little programs. | |
| stian | Jul 14 2004, 19:33 |
| I've added a bunch of the new suggestions. Look at the feature list - it's sorted chronologically, so the newest additions are at the bottom. Thanks for all the good suggestions. Not all of them have been added, only the ones I thought were most relevant. Once again, I know that some of you will disagree with me on which to add and which to ignore, but until I get a better system in place (I'm working on it), that's the way it will have to be, sorry. | |
| Shasha | Jul 14 2004, 14:57 |
| seperate conversations- i.e. many emails with same subject that do not belong as part of one conversation should be able to be seperated manually- or by filter example- livejournal sends you an email when you get a comment to one of your posts. they are all sent with the same subject ("reply to your post" or something to that effect) and it would be nice to have a filter that says when an email with this subject shows up, do not do the great gmail conversation thing with it. it would work for many types of alerts from various sites | |
| set "from" email address | Jul 14 2004, 03:04 |

| curious | Jul 14 2004, 02:56 |

| 1) ability to open multiple messages in mutiple browser tabs ("open link in new tab". 2) Gmail should load in the background, and not force it's tab/window to front. I work in multiple tabs a lot and Gmail intrudes annoyingly. Thanks for the opportunity, -john | |

| I want to have a shell in gmail, so i can process all of my email with command line, change label, move emails from one label to another, deletes, etc. I want to process my gmail emails like i did to my emails in my Maildir | |
| http://www.flameproof.org.uk | Jul 13 2004, 18:43 |
| What about 'masking'? I don't use gmail simply because I want to be able to continue using my flameproof.org.uk email address. If I could set up gmail to make it look like I was sending it from flameproof (or whatever) I'd be using it already! | |
| shassinger@gmail.com | Jul 13 2004, 15:42 |

| jon | Jul 13 2004, 15:25 |
| Given the sole reason for choosing POP3 over IMAP is that it deletes messages from the server, why on earth would you prefer POP3 gmail access? The entire point of gmail is surely to create an archive of your messages online - why would you want to delete them as soon as you access them from a local machine?? | |
| helenaw@gmail.com | Jul 13 2004, 12:38 |
| Yes i'd also like: 1. associate a label with a contact 2. RSS reader and also, what about the ability to export selected emails/conversation threads to: a) a blog b) offline feed: this would allow me to work on my emails when i'm on the road; for example, what about the ability to import an offline feed of gmails into my PDA? or even on to my laptop (and readable on something like eudora)for those dull moments waiting at the dentist who (doesn't yet have a wireless network). | |
| kokeshi@gmail.com | Jul 13 2004, 12:28 |
| I'd really like to be able to search on more than one list category at once: for example, I've got all messages from email ists I'm subscribed to labelled as "lists", and I have all administrative details (logins, account details, etc) labelled as "admin": if I want to see all the account details for just my email lists, I want to be able to search on "admin lists", and at the moment I can't. I've requested this feature from Gmail as well, but hopefully someone here would find it useful as well... Thanks very much for setting this up! | |
| cyberhill@gmail.com | Jul 13 2004, 08:02 |
| "Create email aliases" You can partially do this already, using username+anythingyoulike@gmail.com. Just add the "+whatever" piece to your username and you can then filter them and apply labels if you like. It isn't multiple usernames, but it is nice to be able to use the same account but for different purposes and be able to filter based on that. :) | |
| Cavalier | Jul 13 2004, 07:58 |
| I'd like to be able to delete attachments without necessarily deleting the original e-mails they were attached to. | |
| Graeme | Jul 13 2004, 03:47 |
| 1. I'd like to be able to associate a label with a contact so that the label is added to all email to and from the contact. 2. I'd like to be able to add "Display External Images" as one effect of a filter, so that email from places I know about in advance would be displayed correctly. 3. I'd like to be able to associate a count with a label, so that Gmail only kept the N most recent emails with the label -- good for low-value mailing lists, or lists that are archived on the web already. | |
| Matt | Jul 13 2004, 03:36 |
| How about an RSS reader incorporated into Gmail? Yahoo just bought oddpost.com, an e-mail provider which has an RSS reader and I think Google should considering doing the same with Gmail. I know I want one. | |
| stian | Jul 12 2004, 12:02 |
| quidire: I consider a) more of a bug than a feature, and they are working to fix this. You can get b) by using Google Groups 2 (beta), c) falls under the catch-all for improved contact list functionality, and d) is covered by (or at least very similar to) the option to search on arbitrary headers. I am on vacation right now, so it may take me a while to add new feature suggestions. | |
| quidire@gmail.com (Rahul Sinha... | Jul 09 2004, 02:05 |
| a few suggestions: a) Threads formed by the In-Reply-To flag, not just subject lines (such that if one changes the subject to "B (was Re:A)" it still remains in the same conversation b) a mailing-list service like Yahoo!Groups c) nicknames for contacts d) procmail-based arbitrary filters (as an option/alternative to the existant, easy but limited ones) | |
| Chris | Jul 07 2004, 18:13 |
| Good idea! Can I vote for: "override a users email name when the mail comes in if its in a users contacts list with a different entry." Pretty annoying as I was used to this when using Exchange and Outlook. | |
| stian | Jul 07 2004, 17:50 |
| Btw, regarding your question, Chris: What does everyone think about a separate, smaller poll, open for everyone, to decide which _suggested_ feature to add next? Eventually, the list will get too long for comfort, and I will start having to reject suggestions. And who says I know which ones to reject, even with my good judgement? :) | |
| stian | Jul 07 2004, 17:47 |
| I've added all the suggestions since the last update. Chris: you must have caught me at an awkward time, because I added the new suggestions just as you asked your question :) | |
| Chris | Jul 07 2004, 17:40 |
| And t = trash would be GREAT !!! | |
| Chris | Jul 07 2004, 17:40 |

| ggaspari | Jul 07 2004, 17:12 |
| Ability to search through attached files (PDFs, Office documents, images) just like the big daddy google engine! | |

| Martin Contento | Jul 05 2004, 21:38 |
| in addition to "send as" gmail should get "fetch other" and go out and fetch my other pop3 boxes that don't support forwarding. Then gmail would be the centre of my mail! :) | |
| stian | Jul 05 2004, 12:07 |
| LeroyBrown: I've created a "catch-all" for improved contact list functionality. I'm pretty sure they are working hard to improve the contact list, so let's wait until we see what they come up with before we start voting for very specific features in that department. taye: I agree, that would be nice. I suspect it might not be trivial to implement (depends on how the whole conversation thing works), but i have added it as a new feature nonetheless. Keat: Yes, that would be very nice. I've added it, so let's vote on it and see what happens :) | |
| Keat | Jul 05 2004, 06:23 |
| "Send-as". Ability to send outgoing email as another email address (an email verification procedure MUST be in place to avoid abuse). With this, I can effectively channel all my personal/work/others mails into gmail (using programs or server-side forwarding), and reply using gmail's kewl interface without ever having to use Outlook or any desktop mail program! | |
| taye | Jul 05 2004, 02:21 |
| I'd love the ability to force together separate-topic messages into the same conversation. e.g. if you send a message and someone else changes the topic thread which makes it a different conversation; allowing us to merge the two into 1 conversation. | |
| LeroyBrown | Jul 04 2004, 20:59 |
| can we have an option to vote for being apple to override a users email name when the mail comes in if its in a users contacts list with a different entry. It is particularly annoying when mails will come in from people whose businesses set their display names and they are formatted stupidly and you would like them to be overrode with your name in your contact list for them. handy when browsing through emails! | |

| I think some good features would be WAP access and mobile e-mail alerts for cell phones. Mobile email alerts are small text messages sent to your cell phone when you recieve new emails. They tell you the subject, who it came from, and a little snippet of text from the email. Very useful when you are expecting an email and you don't want to spend all day checking your email. Yahoo! and MSN already allow you to set up mobile email alerts for free. WAP is used in cell phones for mobile internet access. This would allow Gmail users to check their mail with their cell phones. Very useful when you get a mobile email alert on a message you're expecting and you can't get to a computer to read the message. Yahoo! and MSN let you do this already for free. | |
